New Single, Whale Trail App, UK Tour

Gruff Rhys proudly presents a new double a-side single and accompanying game, in addition to a forthcoming headline UK tour.

The single is comprised of Space Dust #2 and Whale Trail.  One of the many highlights of Gruff’s current Hotel Shampoo album, Space Dust #2 is a tale of short-lived, seminar-sparked romance in the form of a duet with El Perro Del Mar.  The playful Whale Trail sees Gruff declaring “this is a motivational song, let’s all get along” and has been inspired by the accompanying iPhone game of the same name.

The digital double a-side single and Whale Trail game will be released on 20th Oct and a limited-edition 12” vinyl single on 31st Oct.  Pre order the 12 “ single HERE.

Just like the song, the Whale Trail game is a highly addictive affair. Players pilot Willow The Whale as he flies through the skies collecting colours and points.  As well as the soundtrack to Willow The Whale’s adventures, Gruff has also provided the voiceover, in Welsh.  The Whale Trail app has been designed by Neil McFarland of award winning digital design studio ustwo – Neil’s previous collaborations with Gruff include artwork for Super Furry Animals’ Juxtaposed With You single and animations for the band’s innovative Rings Around The World and Phantom Power DVD albums.

September 15 and 16 / HAU 1 und ZDFkultur due to live broadcast last admission at 21.45h

Phil Collins’ films often work with entertainment sector genres. For this  work, he is taking on the teleshopping format. “This Unfortunate Thing Between Us” is made up of two former teleshopping programs which do not try to sell the viewer the conventional products – fake jewelry, weight-loss formulas and cleaning products – rather, they take modern fantasies and yearnings seriously and offer them for sale. Which situations give us the chance to truly test ourselves? Would we withstand interrogation by secret police or would we break? Have you ever dreamed of a role in an adult movie set in the Middle Ages? Or would you like to find out everything about air safety – right down to the last detail? The performance runs for two shows, live on stage at HAU1, following the logic and grammar of a teleshopping program – with all the persuasive rhetoric, sales and call-ins by viewers. The public has the opportunity to interact with actors and pop stars to attain the dreams and desires of modern society.
The spectrum of the collaborators in Collins’ works reaches from people whose lives have been ruined by reality TV, to stars of Mexico’s telenovelas, from fans of The Smiths from three continents, to disco-dancing Palestinians. His latest film, in which Collins follows the life of Marxism-Leninism teachers in the former East Germany, received the 3sat-Förderpreis at the “57. Internationalen Kurzfilmtagen” short film festival in Oberhausen.
“This Unfortunate Thing Between Us” is commissioned by the HAU in cooperation with the DAAD’s Berlin artists program and ZDFkultur.
